Kindergarten has been very busy over the past few months. Here are some of our projects.
A few months back the children decided they wanted to do some planting. We picked lettuce seeds and have been documenting the changes. Our lettuce seeds sprouted, and with time and care grew. The children decided that the best way to use the lettuce was to make a salad. Here is what we learned: there are different food groups, some healthier than others, investigating the benefits of nutrirtious foods, the plant life cycle, fine motor skills (cutting, slicing, dicing), measuring, recipies, making predictions and observations, identifying ways to care for the environment and communicating results.
Another project that was sparked by our end of the year trip is building a water park. Mrs. Ingram has been working with the children during play time to build this waterpark from materials around the classroom. They
had to come up with a plan and design their park as a team. Here is what we learned: problem solving, taking turns, retelling stories of our own waterpark experiences, how to research, making lists, building three dimensional structures and selecting and using materials to carry out own explorations.
