Letter from the chair of the Board and director of education to TLDSB families: Welcome to 2024-2025

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year for all Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) students, families, and staff.

We hope everyone had a restful, safe, and enjoyable summer. While many had the opportunity for a break over the summer months, some TLDSB staff members were working hard to get our schools ready to welcome students for the upcoming school year. Thank you to the central office and Facilities Services staff who work tirelessly over the summer to get schools, transportation, and technology ready for students and staff. Many of our educators were engaged in professional development and planning throughout the summer, and are excited to engage students in meaningful learning. As students are welcomed to a new school year, please know that TLDSB has some of the best staff in the province who are so excited for the year ahead.

With the primary focus of student learning, equity, inclusion, and mental health for the 2024-2025 school year, TLDSB will continue to be guided by the 2022-2027 Strategic Plan. As a learning organization, TLDSB is committed to providing relevant and practical professional learning to staff, offering meaningful instruction and evidence-based strategies for students, and ensuring that all students are able to engage in opportunities that will foster success to support their future pathways.

Last week, families received the 2024-2025 TLDSB Handbook for Parents/Guardians and Students, which included information about the personal mobile device rules for students. We strongly believe that limiting distractions created by personal mobile devices will help build relationships and increase human-to-human interaction, ensure more safety for all students, promote positive mental health, and help break bad habits. All of this information can be found on the Parent/Guardian Resources page on the Board’s website. Parents/guardians are asked to review this handbook with their children, as it will help guide students and their families on their journey through school.

We are committed to the work ahead and look forward to serving our students, staff, and communities in the 2024-2025 school year and beyond.
