Congratulations to our Junior-Mixed Soccer Team (Tournament Champions!) and our Intermediate Girls Soccer Team for competing hard and demonstrating Tiger grit at our county tournaments. FTPS hosts the 3rd and final soccer tournament (Intermediate Boys) on Monday. Special shout-out to Ms. Jiggins for convening all three tournaments, parents Calli McEachen, Chris Armour and Justine Grills for helping, coaches Ms. Yandt, Ms. Wilson, Ms. Earp, Ms. Jiggins, Ms. Metheral, Ms. Thomson for coaching, Ms. Bennet for refereeing and the many, many FTPS and FFSS student volunteers!
Say cheese! Don’t forget that picture day is tomorrow! Intermediate boys soccer players will have their pictures taken before they compete, immediately followed by Kindergarten students and the rest of our classes from youngest to oldest.
Our Land, Our Community: A New Approach to Land Acknowledgment
At Fenelon Township Public School, we continue to recognize that our school is located on the traditional territory of the Mississauga people and within the lands covered by the Williams Treaties. Guided by the spirit of the ‘Dish with One Spoon’ agreement. This year we want to help our students connect these words to the land, learning how to care for our community and resources together. Our school is surrounded by lakes, rivers, forests, fields, and farms—places our students explore and make memories every day. We want to give students an opportunity to stop, notice, and appreciate these spaces.
How Families Can Participate: We invite you to talk with your child about a local place they love—whether it’s a lake, a favourite trail, a farm, or even a special tree in your backyard! Submit a photo along with one sentence from your child explaining why they love that place (e.g., “I love the lake because I go fishing there with my family.”). With your permission, these photos and sentences will be shared during morning announcements to build an ongoing land acknowledgment created by our school community.
